Care guide_NY

We live in a society where fast fashion is our primary source of clothing. Even though it can be an easy and accessible way to get something to wear, we at Kerber think this is completely unsustainable and something we actively want to change - That's why we provide one of the most important steps for a more sustainable and eco-friendly wardrobe. Learning the care of different garments will increase their longevity and the more knowledge you gain the easier it'll be to find your favourite material for future investments - that you'll wear and love for years and years!

SILK

Silk is a natural protein fibre composed of fibroin made by the silk worm cocoon. The fibers are super light but the strongest natural fibre available and has really good insulation properties (warm in winter/cool in summer) plus is hypoallergenic. Did you know that silk actually cleans itself - just in plain air? We recommend that you air your garments regularly instead of constantly washing - good for the item AND the environment! ♥ The gorgeous shimmer is due to the prism-like structure of the fibre. Being a little strenuous to wash, when taking proper care of silk it is one of the best and most luxurious materials to ever wear.

  • Air garment regularly to "air-clean", the natural fibre cleans itself
  • When washing, max 30°C with silk detergent on delicates program
  • Never spot treat silk, instead wash the whole garment
  • Put garment on a dry clean towel and roll up to gently squeeze out excessive moisture
  • Air dry hanging or flat
  • Steam on low setting if wrinkly

WOOL

The classic, timeless, natural fibre wool. Derived from sheep, the fibre is shaved off and then spun into threads. Wool is fire retardant and resistant to water, odour, and stains and has really good insulation properties (warm in winter/cool in summer). When you use a heavy knitted wool item the fibres might come loose and form little balls as a direct result of friction (which naturally occurs with movement), so use a wool brush/stone to remove them. As one of natures best materials we can't praise wool enough for its many benefits.

  • Air garment regularly to "air-clean", the natural fibre cleans itself
  • Preferably spot treat items
  • When washing, max 30°C with mild detergent on delicates program
  • Remove instantly from machine when done to reduce creasing
  • Air dry or flat dry
  • Do not tumble dry
  • Never iron wool, use steaming effect or steamer to get rid of wrinkles

VISCOSE

Viscose is a regenerated natural fibre, like bamboo or eucalyptus, that is extracted chemically, which makes it an in-between of synthetic and natural. It is also called artificial silk for its similarities, softness and shine. It's breathable, drapes well, highly absorbent, strong and doesn't get static build-up.

  • Use a washing bag
  • Wash on max 30°C with mild detergent on delicates program
  • Put garment on a dry clean towel and roll up to gently squeeze out excessive moisture
  • Put garment on a new dry towel and air dry flat
  • Lowest setting of ironing/steaming
  • Knits should be folded, woven items can be hung

LINEN

Linen is a natural fibre made from the cellulose that grows inside the stalks of the flax plant, one of the oldest cultivated plants in human history. It's very strong, absorbent and dries fast. Linen is an annual plant which makes it rare and more costly to produce and harvest, but also more luxurious than other fabrics.

  • Wash in max 30°C preferably in soft water
  • Tumble dry on delicates program, if mixed with other fibres check label
  • Iron/steam not too hot, preferably while slightly damp
  • Make sure items are dry before folding

POLYESTER

Polyester is a synthetic fabric and man-made polymer. It is extraordinarily durable, wrinkle free and can be easily mixed with other fabrics. Since it can be easy and cheap to produce polyester can come in many different qualities, good and bad. We use the absolute finest and most exclusive Korean polyester for the best possible quality. The fabric is lightweight but with a great drape, quick drying and easy to take care of.

  • Wash in max 40°C with mild detergent
  • When mixed with other fibres, check main material wash recommendations
  • Air-dry or tumble dry on delicates program
  • Lowest setting if ironing/steaming

 CUPRO

When a natural-fibre garment reaches the end of its lifetime it can be recycled to make the textile cupro. It's made by combining recycled cellulose to specific chemicals to make a new substance. This makes it an in-between of synthetic and natural. Cupro is breathable like cotton and feels like silk.

  • Turn item inside-out and put in a washing bag
  • Wash max 30°C with mild detergent on delicates program
  • Air-dry flat, do not tumble dry
  • Steam item when dry with steamer/iron on lowest setting

TENCEL™

is a branded natural fibre, lyocell/modal, produced by environmentally responsible processes from sustainably sourced natural raw cellulose like wood. When blended with cotton, Tencel adds wrinkle-resistance and the lustrous feel of silk. It is also very suitable for sensitive skin due to it being soft, highly breathable, moisture-wicking and hypoallergenic. Tencel will shrink about 3% with the first washing.

  • Turn item inside-out and put in a washing bag
  • Wash on max 30°C with mild detergent on delicates program
  • Machine dry at a medium setting, or hang to dry
  • Steam on low setting if wrinkly
  • Knits should be folded, woven items can be hung

COTTON

Cotton is a natural fiber that grows with the seeds of the cotton plant. It's comfortable to wear, absorbs moisture and breathes well. It withstands heat, detergents, bleach and resists static electricity - its lesser sides can be easy wrinkling and can be slow to dry.

  • Wash in max 40°C
  • Stretch gently after wash
  • Air-dry flat or tumble dry on delicates program
  • Iron/steam not too hot, preferably while slightly damp
  • Make sure items are dry before folding

ELASTANE

Elastane is a synthetic fibre known for its exceptional elasticity and durability. It is a polyether-polyurea copolymer and is commonly used in sportswear or blended with for example cotton to make the fabric stretchy. It is a great mixing material for that exact reason, to bring some elasticity and comfort to a garment. We have no 100% elastane products, so washing instructions depend on the garments main material.

  • Wash depending on garments main material, check the label
